The biggest drawback of ‘Mastram’ is that one doesn’t really feel for the lead actor and his story. Neither does Rajaram win our sympathy or attention; thanks to the way the film progresses and ends. Considering that the source material is a colourful and interesting way to the murky and mysterious underbelly of Hindi erotica, what ‘Mastram’ eventually ends up as sadly doesn’t do any justice to the whole premise. Mastram thus ends up as just another film with a great premise, but which doesn’t capitalize on the same and hence doesn’t deliver up to satisfaction.
