Mai (mother in Marathi) happens to be the film debut of India's legendary singer Asha Bhosle and she impresses you with her acting ability too! The movie revolves around an old desolate mother (Asha Bhosle) suffering from Alzheimer and is being tossed between her four children. The only son who she had great expectations from isolates her the moment he lands a job in a foreign country. The 2 youngest daughters try to run away from the responsibility too. The eldest daughter (Madhu) a woman of substance, and self made, takes a stand against the wishes of her husband and daughter takes the responsibility of tending for her. During her stay with her daughter (Padmini Kolhapure), Mai reminisces of her good old days of sorrow and happiness in flashes, as she switches in and out of her insanity. As time progresses Mai's Alzheimer attacks goes from bad to worst. Slowly and steadily she starts reliving her past moments in the present situation. The family life of her daughter is in shambles due to the prevailing tension with her husband (Subhash). And at the same time she has the moral responsibility of caring for her sick mother. Madhu balances her disgruntled family and work pressure. The support of her seniors and staff at the workplace helps her to manage her life until; one day the progressing condition of her mother forces her to quit her job. And the relation between Mai and her son-in-law (Ram Kapoor) takes a miraculous turn which changes his life forever. Mai has its moments when it comes to showing the mother-daughter bond.
