The film tells the story of Rai Saheb (Om Puri), an NRI who returns to India. Rai Saheb is a strong believer in the principles given by Gandhiji. In India, Rai Saheb meets four different people who took wrong paths due to various circumstances. The movie very appropriately shows how Rai saheb makes them understand the importance of Gandhi’s principles. The movie shows that even today, Gandhian values remain meaningful and can bring peace, if implemented effectively. Gandhigiri has a good social message which can make you think before you do anything wrong...and that is the only good thing about the movie. A scene where Raj Saheb’s character is speaking at a school event perfectly sums up what you will feel during the film. He starts a lengthy oration, only to see the school children, teachers and parents quickly make for the exits as they realise it is a waste of time. Gandhigiri is a movie about ahinsa and satya, no matter how dire the consequences are. The cinematography of the movie is really poor with awkward angles, giving the viewer a headache. The set number of songs, like the rest of the movie, makes you feel puzzled and you end up being disappointed. We suggest you giving it a miss and enjoying the weekend sleeping!
