From the Mumbai streets to the Big Screen

One of the youngest film director and screenwriter Zoya Akhtar, is back with another script, filled with life. After her last two successful projects, she has just completed writing the script of her next project.

And like all her other movies, this movie will also be different, or what should be said, depicting a different aspect of life. Only 4 movies old director, Zoya has made a firm place for herself in the industry. After ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, Zoya is coming back with a tentatively titled movie ‘Gully Boy’.

Zoya Akhtar's next is tentatively named Gully Boy

Interestingly the movie is based on the life, style and struggle of Mumbai Street rappers. Zoya is a big fan of hip-hop music herself. And lately she was basically intrigued by the street rappers of Mumbai who have succeeded solely riding on their talent. Coming from not so affluent families, with only limited resources, training and everything, they have made it big and have even got a fan following.

So Zoya began with her research work on the subject wherein she was found visiting the Chawl areas of Mumbai to get a look of the real ‘amchi Mumbai’ rappers. She had even visited the famous Rapper Divine and Rapper Naezy. This research was necessary to do right justice to the script.

So after all her homework done, she has completed writing the script and will now move on to the next step. Zoya is also famous for choosing only big actors in her movies. So let’s see who will be the lucky ones this time??

And seems her star brother is her lucky charm and apparently he has already done a movie ‘Rock on’ which is close to the subject. So we can hope to see him again in her movie.
