‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ becomes the highest box office opener of the year 2015

As expected, Salman Khan's film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has got a bumper opening not only in India, but overseas box office as well. The film has already started smashing the records at the box office on its first day.

The film, starring Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor, has not faltered in the 'Dhan' department and has already broken records on its first day. PRDP closed day one with box office receipts in the region of Rs 40 crore net.

‘PremRatanDhanPayo’ becomes the highest box office opener of the year 2015

It was an impressive opening at box-office as on the first day only, the occupancy rate was 70-80 per cent. It seems like the festive season, along with Salman and Barjatya's combo, has worked very well.

The Sooraj Barjatya directed film marks Salman's collaboration with the director and his banner, Rajshri Films, after an extensive gap of 16 years.

It must be noticed that Salman Khan‘s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has become the highest opener of the year, beating his own record that he set with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film earned Rs 40.35 crore on Thursday, which by a big margin. Surpasses the Rs. 27.25 crore that Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected on the first day.

Last year on the occasion of Diwali only, Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Happy New Year’, was released and it raked in an impressive 44.97 crore. However, Salman's"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" had a higher number of screen count compared to 'Happy New Year'. Also, 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' released in over 4,500 screens in India and over 1,100 screens in the international market.

It is expected that the weekend collection for PRDP will be around Rs 110-120 crore; indicating huge accomplishments for the director and all team members.

So, this week's big Thursday has proved a blockbuster and the box office has exploded to match the Diwali fireworks. But it is still a question whether "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" will emerge as the highest opener. What is your opinion?
