Rajkummar Rao aur Kriti Kharbanda ki shaadi mein mat jaana!

Movie Review: Rajkummar Rao aur Kriti Kharbanda ki shaadi mein mat jaana!

Satyendra is a clerk in a government office with little ambition – his sources of contentment is a family owned three-storey building. Aarti is a college topper who wants to be IAS officer. Neither wants to get married but decide to go with the flow as they find common values and interests. Soon the two get separated due to situations, and the revenge drama begins.

It could have been such a great movie, but, the clichés just bum you out since the beginning. Watching Rajkummar play a small town boy has got boring with every movie that he does. However, we still do like him a lot, as he plays his character with conviction. Be it the young lover to Kriti Kharbanda, or the avengeful man later, he delivers such emotions, that you just can’t sit in the theatre unaffected.

Kriti comes out as a surprise package. She shows great acting skills, and might be the rising star in Bollywood, just like Bhumi Pednekar. All character actors are a treat to watch. Govind Namdev’s strict and patriarchal father is in contrast to KK Raina’s educated father of the groom and Navni Parihar is impressive as an understanding but submissive mom – all of them successfully manage to bring to the screen the life and travails of small-town India.

After some twists, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana turns into a revenge drama but goes back to being a love story when the curtain comes down.

The bride’s father busts his “budget” and sells his land to give his daughter a perfect start in her new family.

It is not just dowry that the girl has to deal with. Her mom-in-law has her own definition of a working “Bahu”. “Is ghar mein to humi sarkar hain, bahu aaye aur ghar sambhale. Isi ko sarkari naukari samajh le. Humare ghar me bahuein naukri nahi karti.”

Putting great emphasis on the evils of the society, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is a great watch, but only once it comes out on DVD.

  • 2017 might have been a bad year for Bollywood, considering the bad movies, and the scarce Box Office collections that the movies made. Also, the controversies surrounding the movies this year, did them more harm than good. But, there are still a few movies from 2017, that we would watch again someday.
  • We have all heard struggle stories of our favourite celebrities, some have been waiters, and some might have been junior artists. But, too many have been backup dancers. From a field that has potentially more than a million people in it, these stars shone so brightly, that they became the cream of Bollywood. These stars started their journey with dancing behind superstars and are now working with them.
  • Bollywood is filled with people, who excel at acting. But other than acting and the storyline, there is another thing that makes our films blockbusters. Dancing! Bollywood movies are filled with dancers. Some dance like they have two left feet, but some, dance like there is no tomorrow. These are the dancers, we are paying a tribute to today.
  • Madame Tussauds is a gem in the age of modern museums, and the capital has become the lucky holder of this gem. Delhiites have become a part of the lucky few, who can now visit these lifelike celebrity wax statues. But, our favourite part is the amazing resemblance, and in some cases the disparity, of these wax figurines.
