Hefty Amount of Rs 15 crores Spent to Light-up Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's Sets

Another great surprise that we received from the much-awaited Diwali release flick, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, was the hefty amount spent on lighting the movie’s sets. It is being anticipated that a colossal amount of Rs. 15 crores has been invested till now, just for illuminating the entire set of PRDP. This Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer movie is scheduled for release on 12th November, 2015.

Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming production—Prem Ratan Dhan Payo—is lined up with A-list celebrities like, Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Looking at all the teasers and trailers of PRDP released till now, the movie definitely looks like a heavy-budgeted film with lavishly adorned sets and intricately designed costumes of the entire star-cast. It doesn’t come as a shock that the lighting part of the movie alone has taken up Rs 15 crores.

A member of the film’s unit has been quoted saying, “Director Sooraj Barjatya is known to spend lavishly on set design and since his upcoming film revolves around a royal family, he has made it as opulent as it could get”. The source further adds, that “lights were an important element of the set design and the cost of illumination over the 258-day schedule has come to somewhere between Rs 13-15 crore. “

If sources are to be believed, PRDP’s production team has acknowledged this news by saying that, "Exquisite and expensive lights were purchased for the shoot because Sooraj Sir was clear about lending a grand look to the film. And with Salman deciding to let go of his fee, the director was able to spend generously on the production."

Along with the speculations made by sources, Salman Khan has also agreed that 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' is "one of the most expensive films" that he has worked in. Such disclosures indeed reflect on the possibility that ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is going to register some really massive figures, pre and post release. While the film's budget is supposed to be around Rs 90 crores, industry sources further convey that record numbers of screens booked for 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', are 4,800-5,200 in India and 1,000-1,200 overseas.

A source informed “Normally, big-ticket films are released on around 3500-4000 screens in the domestic market and 200-500 screens outside the country. However, Sooraj Barjatya's marketing team has set an ambitious target and wants to cash in on the Diwali festival. The film has already been hugely publicized since Salman Khan and Barjatya have teamed up after a decade and half, and the team wants to make the most of it".
