Rock On 2 fails to spread 'Magik' it promised

Movie Review: Rock On 2 fails to spread Magik it promised

Directed by Shuaat Saudagar Rock On 2 is a musical film featuring Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai and Shashank Arora. The movie is the sequel to the 2008 release Indian rock music drama Rock On. Rock On which was a youth-centric film and had beautifully delivered the passion for music and creating a band. The songs of the film became a huge sensation with the band, Magik, becoming an instant rage. In the movie, Aditya (Farhan Akhtar) seeks redemption after a sad incident disturbs him deeply. He moves to Meghalaya for some soul-searching and immerses himself in humanitarian causes and leaves away his band. Whereas, in Mumbai, Joe (Arjun Rampal) opens up a posh club and starts judging a reality show. The other lead in the movie, KD (Purab Kohli) still hopes to reunite the band with the two once again and make awesome music someday. While, the new actress is an addition to the old music band group in the movie and her track is a forceful one. Unfortunately, the sequel of the movie fails to impress us with the same Magik. The songs of the movie are less impactful. Only the original title track managed to impress us. Shot in Shillong the movie has some picturesque scenes but the cinematography lacks perfection. Farhan Akhtar has done an amazing job and all the actors have done justice to their roles. Moreover, Rock On 2 is a movie that's about a rock band and has music as its theme but doesn't promise an extraordinary soundtrack and it adds on to the negative points of the movie.

Shujaat Saudagar’s direction lacks a lot of effort and coherency here. There are certain points in the movie where there’s no connect between the scenes and is a complete mis-match, a very patchy kind of direction. Apart from direction, the music composed by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy has left us unimpressed. The music of this musical drama fails to spread the Magik, like the previous one. Towards the end, you’ll see Aditya’s son Rob taking interest in music, which gives us a hint that it might be a sign for another film in the franchise! NO...please don’t do this!

Overall, the story fails to spread the Magik! We suggest you can give it a miss for the weekend and enjoy the chilly hours at home!

Bollypedia Ratings - 2/ 5 stars

  • You fall in love and vow to spend the rest of your life with each other. Such is the beauty of a marriage. The end, however, is not always as beautiful. Blame it on fame, gorgeous looks or the fact that cupid's arrows strike again and again in the glamour world, but Bollywood couples have to face the ugly truth of infidelity, divorces, and break-ups ever so often.
  • In Bollywood, there was a time, when supporting actors did not receive the appreciation they do now. They were looked at as mere pawns to make the lead look good. But times have changed, and talented artists have taken these so called side roles, and evolved them into the backbone of the films. They are now taking the limelight, and sometimes even overshadow the leads.
  • Unlike popular belief, there have been a large number of celebrities who broke the ‘Career is finished after marriage’ taboo and came out shining like true stars only after they got married. Some turned out to be the major superstars of the country, whereas some struggled to leave an impact on the industry, but the one thing that all of them have in common is that they were married before they set their foot on the silver screen.
  • Whenever a celebrity does something whether good or bad, extraordinary or mundane, the news always manages to make its way to the headlines. The frenzy around Indian celebrities who became politicians is therefore justified. And when the theme is women-centric, it’s even better.
  • We all know actors who are also singers seem to be the latest trend in B-town. And you must be aware there are quite a few of them, but we have news for you! First, this trend is not new-found and secondly there are many celebrities who possess this talent. Shocked aren’t you?
  • Having a legal notice attached to one’s image is not good for any individual, but when you are a star, it is even worse, as every star has a brand name to maintain and landing up in trouble due to such unforeseen circumstances is nothing short of a controversy! Here is a list of top Bollywood stars who went to jail.
