By Ittefaq Sidharth and Sonakshi both look constipated!

Vikram Sethi (Sidharth Malhotra) is a London-based mystery writer. His last book hasn’t done well, and he is under pressure to deliver a bestseller. He is in India to launch his next, but circumstances take a strange turn when his wife’s body is discovered in a Mumbai hotel. It’s natural for the police, led by Dev Verma (Akshaye Khanna), to arrest Vikram after he flees the scene of the crime. However, he manages to slip from their grip. Vikram is nabbed a second time at the house of a total stranger, Maya Sinha (Sonakshi Sinha). What’s more, her husband’s body is there too. The police have two bodies, two prime suspects and a number of secondary suspects in what once seemed like an open-and-shut case.

The movie, as it promises, keeps the audience guessing who the killer is, till the very end. Though, it could have been grittier than it ends up. Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha try to play their parts honestly, but, it is just an Ittefaq that they both can’t. It’s not that they are terrible at their role, they just sadly wear the same expression mostly in the movie.

The leading characters seem a little uncomfortable and unfamiliar with their environment. The movie reminds you of the brilliant thriller, it could have been, at almost every step. The ending is logical, and like any good thriller, you easily connect the dots once the whole suspense is revealed.

Sidharth has beaten Sonakshi in the acting department in this movie not that his role is exceptional, but, he shows a more promising and reliable actor than Sonakshi does. Akshaye Khanna is, obviously, the best out of the whole flock. He is easily the better part of the film.

Debutante director Abhay Chopra will surely be sought out after producers see this work of his. He might not have made a foolproof film, but, for his first time, he has definitely surpassed many directors that fail at making the thriller genre.

Ittefaq is a must watch, but, only if you have the patience to ride out the few loopholes and a few lifeless scenes.
