'Dilwale’ had a better start than ‘Bajirao Mastani’

‘Dilwale’ starring ShahrukhKhan and Kajol in lead role finished its first day run at the box office impressively. The film was expected to collect Rs. 20-30 crores net approx and it has done the same by becoming the front runner in most of the regions in India.

By far one of the most awaited films of the year, ‘Dilwale’ only had 65% of screens of what  ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ or ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ had due to clash with ‘Bajirao Mastani’, so this opening day is actually a very good number.

‘Dilwale’ has got a collection of Rs. 21 crores India nett on its first day which is a very good number. As predicted earlier, the film has performed better in Northern regions as well as some parts of South where a film like ‘Bajirao Mastani’ cannot sustain.

Dilwale was also affected by protests against the movie in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat where a few shows were stopped from screening.

Though, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ proved a spoiler for ‘Dilwale’, and reduced its collections yet, ‘Dilwale’ has collected 21-22 Crores as per Trade Figure estimates which is the 3rd highest of 2015 after ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.  Also, ‘Dilwale is 12th Highest Opening day of All time. For Shahrukh Khan ‘Dilwale’ is the 3rd Highest opener in his career after Happy New year and Chennai Express.

Interestingly, Dilwale is highest ever opening day for Varun Dhawan in his career.  Well the hype generated around the film paid off at the box office, with the film recording rather good collection figures.

‘Dilwale’ naturally has an upper hand here with more star power as the film stars Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon . Director Rohit Shetty also has comparatively more credibility for giving entertaining films that audiences usually prefer over historic ones like ‘Bajirao Mastani’ . After the great opening, we look forward to seeing the first weekend collections of the two films.
