Begum Jaan starts with a slow pace at the box office!

Directed by Srijit Mukherji, ‘Begum Jaan’ highlights the plight of around a dozen of sex workers in a disputed Punjab land where the Pakistan border is being made, and the officials force their brothel to its demise. Starring Vidya Balan in the most pivotal role, it was one of the most awaited films of 2017 especially because of its bold subject.

Begum Jaan is a remake of the classic Bengali film ‘Rajkahini’ directed by Srijit himself. It has won a lot of praises, so he decided to make the same movie in Bollywood as well. Vidya Balan could manage to pick-up the role with perfection for sure and this film was one of the most challenging aspects in her entire Bollywood career.

The movie released this Friday and according to the Bollywood trade pundits, the film has bagged a decent number of movie screens ranging from 1100 – 1500. The film has earned 3.94 Crore on the opening day, which seems pretty low. Also, it is expected that the opening weekend will witness roughly around Rs. 14-15 Crore at the box office.

Talking about her role as and in Begum Jaan, Vidya Balan feels delighted to be a part of this project which Srijit offered her. The way each and every woman in the movie has portrayed the looming crisis after the 1947 Partition of India is commendable. What do you think? Have you watched the film yet? They are now taking the limelight, and sometimes even overshadow the leads.
