After Airlift and Houseful 3 Akshay Kumars Rustom enters the 100 crore club

The year 2016 has been great for Akshay Kumar. After ‘Airlift’ and ‘Houseful 3’, ‘Rustom’ is his third entrant in the 100 crore club. Released on 12th August 2016, the film is a biopic based on true events of the Nanavati murder case in 1959. The case created media frenzy at the time. The film also generated a lot of buzz before its release and had many Bollywood celebrities supporting and promoting it. It clashed with Ashutosh Gowariker directed ‘Mohenjo Daro’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja hedge.

‘Airlift’ is the second highest grossing film of this year with 127.80 crore as its total earnings. ‘Houseful 3’ grossed around 107 crore. While it is most likely that ‘Rustom’ will cross ‘Houseful 3’s numbers, ‘Airlift’ is still a long way ahead. But the ninth day standing of ‘Rustom’ is much more impressive than the other two Akshay Kumar films. After nine days ‘Airlift’ had grossed Rs. 94.50 crore, Houseful 3’ stood at Rs. 88.65 crore while ‘Rustom’ had already crossed 100 crore.

Will ‘Rustom’ leave behind the other two Akshay Kumar starrers in its BO collection? Only time will tell. For now, it is an all win situation for Akshay Kumar.
