Review

Karan Johar’s ADHM, opens to a scene where Ranbir Kapoor the famous singer is giving an interview and is asked a question on love. Telling about his love Ayan (Ranbir) goes on to tell is story, how he fell in love with Alizeh (Anushka). Alizeh, however is head over heels in love with her ex-boyfriend Ali (Fawad Khan), who plays the role of a DJ. In this course of the movie Karan Johar takes you back to moments from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho multiple times. The central theme of the movie is love and romance and it revolves around Ayan (Ranbir) and Alizeh (Anushka). ADHM is a movie that belongs to Ranbir and Anushka completely. The characters have done justice to their roles and they look quite promising. Although you need to wait quite long too see Aishwarya and Fawad, but that’s okay, as Ranbir is the show stealer. The picturesque landscapes will leave you mesmerized. The soothing and refreshing music makes you fall in love with the movie over and over again. The expressions, the emotions, the soulful music and obviously the performance by Ranbir Kapoor will leave you mesmerized and also in tears if you are sensitive like us. The firsthalf of the film is quite lengthy and light and it’s only in the second part of the movie that catches your interest completely. The second part of the movie opens at the airport where Ayan meets Saba (Aishwarya) who plays the role of a ‘Shaayar’. The two share a really good bond and after returning Ayan finds his companion in Saba. Bound by the Karan Johar’s love stories Saba falls in love with Ayan who loves Alizeh. A heart-broken Ayan finds love or you can say lust in the arms of Saba. The sizzling chemistry between them is a master piece of direction that Karan has delivered. Emotions get more complicated in the second half when Alizeh and Ayan re-unite. Ayan and Alizeh enjoy their emotions of love and friendship at the same time. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a composite and long love story. It is also indulgent yet relatable to situations we all have been through. Coming to the direction, Karan Johar does wonders as always.

Thumbs Up Moments

Karan Johar’s take on emotions, love and relationships is deep and is impressive in bits. The performances are outstanding with Ayan being the best of all. Ranbir’s responses and the sync in acting with his co-actors make his performance more appealing. Fawad Khan with his good looks and charm manages to impress us. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks are so damn hot and her moments with Ayan have intense sensuality and passion. Alizeh played by Anushka, is a role done complete justice to. The charming girl keeps us involved in the movie till the end. The cameos played by Shahrukh and DJ Alia Bhatt also add to the grace of the movie. The dialogue delivery and heavy soulful words add to the brownie points for the movie. On the whole, a well directed movie with amazing screenplay, awesome cinematography and heart melting music.

Thumbs Down Moments

The first of the movie is bit lengthy and doesn’t has much engaging plot. Lisa Haydon’s cameo is funny (boring) we must say and the actor makes you wonder why you are even trying if you cannot act. Imran Abbas hardly makes a difference with his appearance.

Verdict

We would say, ADHM is a movie full of emotions, love and friendship and will leave you with a thought that love only happens once. As we say, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will strengthen your belief that ‘Pyar Ek Hi Baar Hota Hai'. ADHM is must watch for this weekend. Go out and enjoy the feeling of love.

Bollypedia Ratings - 3/ 5 stars

  • In Bollywood, there was a time, when supporting actors did not receive the appreciation they do now. They were looked at as mere pawns to make the lead look good. But times have changed, and talented artists have taken these so called side roles, and evolved them into the backbone of the films. They are now taking the limelight, and sometimes even overshadow the leads.
  • Unlike popular belief, there have been a large number of celebrities who broke the ‘Career is finished after marriage’ taboo and came out shining like true stars only after they got married. Some turned out to be the major superstars of the country, whereas some struggled to leave an impact on the industry, but the one thing that all of them have in common is that they were married before they set their foot on the silver screen.
  • Whenever a celebrity does something whether good or bad, extraordinary or mundane, the news always manages to make its way to the headlines. The frenzy around Indian celebrities who became politicians is therefore justified. And when the theme is women-centric, it’s even better.
  • We all know actors who are also singers seem to be the latest trend in B-town. And you must be aware there are quite a few of them, but we have news for you! First, this trend is not new-found and secondly there are many celebrities who possess this talent. Shocked aren’t you?
  • Having a legal notice attached to one’s image is not good for any individual, but when you are a star, it is even worse, as every star has a brand name to maintain and landing up in trouble due to such unforeseen circumstances is nothing short of a controversy!
